CONSENT : A Participatory Installation of Marika Whitaker
March 15th - March 18th at Spaceus
Opening reception + reading: Monday, March 18th 7 - 9pm
In CONSENT, installation artist Marika Whitaker uses map pins and thread to create text on the walls of the Porcelain Gallery at Spaceus. This process highlights the multiple uses of the bathroom as a site of material exchange: bacterial, sexual, textual and more. Whitaker investigates consent and the various ways we say yes and no and everything in between. Through this participatory installation, Whitaker invites contributors to thread the text, write on the walls, and engage in exchange and leave a trace. All are invited to leave their mark, connect the dots between yes, no, maybe, so, and watch the space between take sculptural form.
The exhibit will be open for participation during gallery hours Saturday (3/16) and Sunday (3/17) from 12 - 4pm, as well as the opening reception (3/18) from 7 - 9pm. The suggested donation for this event is $5 - $15. You can make donations through Eventbrite or during the event.
